The men involved in the crash are both from Philadelphia, according to the police.  The driver, Jason MacDonald will be charged with numerous felonies related to aggravated assault, reckless driving, and fleeing an accident. The passenger Goldwin Prince was armed with an illegally possessed handgun when he was arrested, so he will be charged with firearms violations and possession of marijuana.  Court dockets were not immediately available.

Here's how the crash played out: The men were "driving in a reckless manner at a high rate of speed" when they "failed to stop for the red traffic signal" at the intersection of Jenkintown Road and Abington Avenue in the Glenside section of Abington Township at 3:47 p.m. pm Friday, Oct 11, Lieutenant Steve Fink detailed in a police release.

That's when they struck another vehicle traveling through the intersection with a green light, but that didn't stop their vehicle — the car continue up onto a sidewalk striking the 13-year-old girl, "who had just been safely crossed by a crossing guard," Fink wrote. She "was standing on the sidewalk talking with the crossing guard when she was struck."

Then both men took off on foot, failing to stop and check on the girl or the driver of the other vehicle, according to Fink.

"They were quickly apprehended by Abington Officers and placed under arrest," the police said.

The girl was taken by ambulance to Abington Jefferson Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
